FAQs

  • What is aesthetic facial plastic surgery?

Aesthetic or cosmetic facial plastic surgery alters the shape of the nose, jaw, cheekbones, ears, neckline, eyes or forehead to improve or restore balance to the face and/or reverse the signs of aging.

  • What is reconstructive facial plastic surgery?

Reconstructive surgery corrects deformities which are a result of congenital abnormalities (abnormalities a person is born with), trauma, previous surgeries or skin cancer.

  • What are the risks?

All surgical procedures have associated risks. However, complications are uncommon. Complications can include bleeding, infection and abnormal or excessive scar formation.

  • What anesthesia is used?

An anesthesiologist will work closely with Dr. Karsan to determine the most suitable anesthesia for your procedure. This will depend on your medical history and the procedure you will undergoing. Regardless of the anesthetic chosen, you will be very comfortable during the entire procedure.

  • Is there any pain after the surgery?

There is usually minimal pain and discomfort after cosmetic surgery. However, you will be given a prescription for painkillers in the event that you need them. Some patients use the prescription pain medication for the first couple of days after surgery. A majority of patients use over-the-counter pain medication for most post-operative pain.

  • How long do the procedures take?

Non-invasive procedures take minutes to perform. Surgical procedures take one to a few hours, depending on the procedure.

  • How soon after the procedure can I resume work?

The recovery period depends on the procedure. Most people can go back to work immediately after non-invasive procedures. You may need one to two weeks after a surgical procedure to get back to work.

  • How soon after the procedure can I resume my exercise routine?

You need approximately two weeks to recover after surgery to resume aerobic activity and weight lifting as it can increase bruising and swelling. However, shortly after surgery, you can perform light activities such as walking.

  • How much does it cost?

Depending on the procedure, the cost varies. However, cosmetic surgery has become much more affordable. Please contact the office for more information on fees and financing at 214-646-8777.

  • How long do the results last?

Procedures that are performed to reshape the nose, cheekbones, chin, ears or jaw can last a lifetime. Procedures for rejuvenating the aging face such as facelifts, forehead lifts, eyelid surgery and laser resurfacing last a number of years. However, you will continue to age. Rejuvenation procedures sets back the clock and improves your appearance significantly.

  • Will I look "done"?

Dr. Karsan prides herself with a natural, un-operated look as her approach to facial plastic surgery. The goal of cosmetic procedures, surgical or non-surgical, is to improve the balance of your face and the shape of a facial feature or rejuvenate an area of the face, naturally, so that it is not obvious that a procedure has been done. You will look more refined and refreshed. Colleagues, acquaintances or friends may ask if you have been on vacation or changed your hair or make-up. Unless you discuss your surgery with people, most will not know that a procedure was done.
