Skin Care Treatments

Acne Scar Treatment

Acne causes scarring within the skin as well as under the skin. The wide scars are best treated with laser resurfacing, medical needling or with injectable facial fillers to fill the depressed scar. Narrow ice pick scars are treated with excision techniques by removing the scar.

Facial Scar Treatment

Scars can be noticeable for several reasons. If a scar is too wide or long, if it lies in the wrong direction, if it is elevated or depressed or different in color from the surrounding skin it will be noticed. Scars can also cause distortion of adjacent structures such as the lips, eyes or nose. Plastic surgery camouflages scars to make them as inconspicuous as possible by optimizing their appearance. Multiple techniques are available to make the scars less noticeable such dermabrasion, laser treatment, excision and surgical reconstruction or the use of dermal fillers to fill a depressed scar.

Dermabrasion

Dermabrasion uses ultra-fine crystals to remove top layers of dead skin to reveal refreshed, brightened, smoother, healthier skin with less fine lines. At the same time micro-peels can be used to increase the depth of removal of the upper layers of old skin. The dermabrasion is tailored to fit the needs of the person.

Micro-Peels

A number of peels are available including the "alpha hydroxy" and "fruit acid". They remove the upper layers of dead skin and stimulate regeneration of new fresh skin and the production of collagen-like substances. The resultant skin appears brighter and feels smoother with less fine lines. The pore size is diminished. Pigmentation including freckles and brown patches are diminished and overall skin tone is improved. The upper layer of the skin is regenerated relatively quickly so these peels can be repeated as needed to maintain the new rejuvenated health of your facial skin.

Skin Care Maintenance

Skin care regimes have become quite sophisticated in the last few years. Cleansers and creams are used to diminish fine lines and discoloration, reduce pore size and control oiliness and moisturize. Each patient has a different texture, moisture, pigmentation and lines that require customized skin care.

Preventive Skin Care Maintenance

Sun exposure results in fine lines, discoloration and skin cancer. To prevent skin damage, sunscreen with protection against both UVA and UVB is essential. It is imperative that patients use sunscreens as part of their daily skin care regime, in addition to the use of the appropriate cleansers, creams, lotions and peels. Sunscreen with or without a tint to protect against the effects of UVA and UVB is available to complement the skin care maintenance.
